Letter from Booster President

Happy 2012 Band Boosters!

I hope that everyone had a great break and is looking ahead to a wonderful new year.  The kids are very busy with their work, Drum Line, Colour Guard, Symphony, Concert and Jazz Bands, for all of these activities you can expect updates from the Directors.  As the kids do their work we as Boosters continue to do ours to support them.  This is why I want to give everyone a heads up about what is happening and again encourage your participation.

  • Feb. 1 – 17   Little Caesar’s Pizza Kit Sales (paperwork to come home with students)
  • Feb. 5  Winter Invitational at WBHS (lots of volunteers needed just like the Fall Invitational)
  • Feb. 12  Bottle and Can Drive (information to follow, so please save your returnables especially from Super Bowl Sunday!!!  and ask your friends to do so too!)

***The plan to have our Annual Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction has been changed.  The new date is Wed. March 21, 6-8:30pm. Entertainment provided by our very own Jazz Band.  Tickets just $7/person.  Great deal for a great night out.
Order forms for tickets for the Dinner will be sent home with the kids on Mon. Feb. 27.  Please plan to return ticket order forms and money by Mon. March 12.
Actual tickets will then be sent home with students on Mon. March 19.
This year in addition to the Spaghetti Dinner we are having a fun Silent Auction on the same night.  We anticipate some nice donations and encourage all of you to make donations too.  Some ideas could be:  a beautiful hand knit scarf, a certificate for your special home-made bread, or a themed basket, say “A Day at the Beach”.  All donations welcomed, please contact me with your contributions, by March 12.

I look forward to all of these events.  I would especially love to see more of you at the General Membership meetings.  Please consider marking your calendar and coming to the one Tues. Feb. 7, 7pm.  You may be the lucky winner of a $25 gift certificate just for attending (yes, that is bribery!).  This is a wonderful way to stay connected with my Band Friends!

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Goldstein

US Army All American Marching Band – Justin and Zachary live online!

The United States Army All American Marching Band (USAAAMB) is live online twice this weekend.

The first performance is their dress rehearsal which takes place tonight from 5-8pm Central Time (6-9pm Eastern Time) and can be seen starting right now (Friday January 6, 2012) at http://www.banddirector.com

The actual performance is tomorrow, Saturday January 7 during the half time of the US Army All American Bowl Game starting at 1:00pm Central Time, and while the network television station will probably NOT shoe the entire half time performance you can see the band’s entire show online at http://www.allamericangames.tv

Congratulations to Justin Bronstein and Zachary Helm on their exciting achievement.  Break a leg All Americans, Hoo-rah!

Winter Invitaional Help Needed

Hello everybody!

Our winter invitational is fast approaching. We will need a great number of people to help us with this event. This is a fundraiser for the boosters. The funds we raise help offset the costs of all of the programs that BBAWB supports! It is a color guard and drum line show on Sunday, February 5th. We will have at least 14 schools attending this event.

Please take a look at the attached schedule and let me know what you can help us with. The schedule does not have exact times yet. We are waiting for MCGC to set the times of our show. We are guessing that the show may run between 10 am and 6pm. Some jobs require people to do set up and clean up, such as concessions, so those jobs are also before and after the show. Just let me know what hours you are available, and I will try to schedule it.

I am especially in need of a very enthusiastic person who can be in charge of selling the 50/50 raffle tickets. The raffle is “free” money to us. It costs us nothing to raise so we need to take full advantage of this opportunity.

I also need a person who is willing to buy food (you will be reimbursed), prepare it, and feed the judges at the event. It involves a few trays of food, and setting up in the media center for the judges. We will give you direction on how to do this and what would be expected. We may need to feed the judges lunch and dinner. Please let me know if you have any questions.  Contact us at  wbbands@gmail.com to volunteer.

Thank you very much for your help,

Ruth Richards, Volunteer Coordinator BBAWB

Schedule and info for BOA Nationals

Band of America Nationals

Download these important documents: BOA Itinerary and BOA Packing List

Please arrive to the HS at 6:00 a.m. this Thursday.  Please note that we are on a very tight schedule and will be pulling out at 6:30 SHARP. The itinerary and suggested packing list is attached.

  • We will not be eating until noon on Thursday, so please be sure to bring food or a snack for the bus ride.
  • Any medications must be labeled with your child’s name in its original packaging.  Mrs. Fritz will be collecting all prescriptiona as well as any over the counter medication your child may need.
  • The band members will have time on Thursday night to shop for patches, t-shirts, etc. in the stadium. Thursday is the best day to do this since they often run out of patches. Students will need to bring extra cash for this.
  • Anybody leaving their car at the high school while we are at Nationals, must park in the lot where we keep the trailer. You MUST provide your make, model and license plate number to Beth French (email address below)  prior to the event so that we may let the high school and police department know.
  • Students, chaperones, parents, staff;  if you have not given your food preference for the meals we are pre-ordering, please email Beth French (french2026@netzero.com) with your selections for each meal (students did this yesterday).   Choices are as follows: FRI Sandwich: Roast Beef, Turkey or Veggie, SAT Wrap: Roast Beef, Turkey or Veggie, SAT Cookout: Hot Dog, Hamburger or Boca burger
  • For any parents that plan to watch us practice at Rancalli High School on Thursday, we would appreciate any help with the uniforms, hair/make-up and loading the truck.
  • Because we are going directly to the practice field, students should be ready to practice on Thursday without going into their luggage.
  • Please label luggage and don’t bring too many bags.
  • As a reminder: the school code of conduct applies on this trip. Students found in possession of tobacco products, alcohol, or other controlled substances will be immediately dismissed and their parents will be required to pick them up. Further disciplinary action will be taken as deemed as necessary by the band directors and administration in accordance with school board policy.

Mary Johnston’s cell phone number is (248) 804-6021 if you need to reach us for any reason.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know and we look forward to a GREAT TRIP!

Important Saturday Information!

Hello Everyone, I am really in a state of disbelief that we are just days away from the conclusion of an amazing Marching Band season.  It truly seems as though we were just beginning our practices on Abbott field and preparing for band camp!  With that said, isn’t it awesome what our kids have done and just how beautifully they have grown.  The show is wonderful and their accomplishments stellar.  I will never stop being amazed at how focused and entertaining a group of determined teenagers can be when they put their minds to something.  Kudos to the Kids.

Now we have a few more jobs to do to guide them through these last stages of the season.

I hope that this note helps clarify and eliminate confusion on Saturday morning and the State Competition.

The kids will be bringing their uniforms home by Thursday, Nov. 3.

The uniforms should be cleaned and ship shape for these last two important competitions.  (wash in cold water, dried on cool and turned inside out for ironing a front of the leg crease).  DOWNLOAD CARE INSTRUCTIONS DOCUMENT.

Your child has had their uniform inspected and the EXACT pieces assigned to them back in August is what they NEED to have now.  Please, double check that the label on the garment bag matches the labels in their uniforms.  This is VERY IMPORTANT as there has been much confusion with kids switching uniforms and then being very stressed over missing articles.  This is especially difficult on them before an important show and something to be avoided.

The kids will need to show up at the high school by 7am Saturday morning in full uniform (minus the Shako, which they will pick up once at school).

If you notice any discrepancy, please notify me before Saturday morning.

Again, to clarify, each child needs to have THEIR OWN SPECIFICALLY ASSIGNED UNIFORM PIECES…..

BIBS (pants)
JACKET
2 GAUNTLETS (unless in pit)
BLACK GLOVES (unless in pit/battery)
BLACK SOCKS
BLACK SHOES (please clean these with Windex, do NOT polish)
AND A SHAKO OR BERET (which stays at the school)

Also, remember that the kids will be returning to the high school approximately 1pm Saturday afternoon.  Arrangements must be made for their pickup from the school.

If you are planning to bring your child home and they are not to ride the bus…. they MUST be checked out with the Chaperone’s AT THE BUSES near Ford Field….we can not have parents taking them from inside the Stadium.  THE CHAPERONE’S will assume that they are to be on the bus unless a parent is AT the bus to make other arrangements.  Please Do Not take them without the proper arrangements made with the chaperone’s as it will hold up the entire group. (Not to mention scare the b-geebers out of the chaperone!)

NO KIDS LEFT BEHIND :) !!!!!

Ford Field is an amazing venue and this is going to be a wonderful performance.  We can all be super proud of our kids, performing there is quite an accomplishment.  And to realize that they will then move on to Lucas Oil Stadium is Fabulous.  This achievement is really monumental (the place is gigantic and the groups awesome).

I thank all of you for the support and effort that has been put forth this season.  The success of this organization is completely a product of all of the Directors’, kids’ and parents’ hard work.   And we can proudly say that we have been successful.  I hope that we all savor these last few moments and enjoy the memories being made.

I am personally honored to have been able to participate.

Thank you and Best of Luck to our Band.

Your President,

Jacqueline Goldstein
