Director of Bands, West Bloomfield High School
Mr. Noah Dyer currently serves as Director of Bands at West Bloomfield High School and Orchard Lake Middle School. A native of the metro-Detroit area, Noah holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Michigan University. He marched with the Glassmen, Madison Scouts, and Santa Clara Vanguard, playing both trumpet and mellophone during his seven seasons as a member in Drum Corps International.
He joined the faculty of West Bloomfield in 2018 after spending time as an assistant band director and elementary music teacher in mid-Michigan. Mr. Karl Stein is the Director of Bands at Abbott Middle School. Mr. Stein is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. While at EMU, he performed with the EMU Wind Symphony, University Choir, Jazz Choir, Euphonium-Tuba Choir, and Marching Band. During his time in the EMU Marching Band, he served three years as drum major and one year as equipment manager.
Mr. Stein performed in DCI with the Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps of Lexington, Kentucky in 2004 on contrabass and in 2005 as drum major, earning the runner-up award for Drum Corps International’s Drum Major of the Year award for that year. He also spent two years as a music instructor for the world championship finalist Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps in 2007 and 2008.
Mr. Stein comes to West Bloomfield after spending three years as Band Director at Gladewater Middle School and Assistant Director at Gladewater High School in Gladewater, Texas. While in Texas, his ensembles received excellent ratings at concert and sightreading contest, and his students have qualified for all-region band each year at the middle school, and all-area band at the high school.
Mr. Stein has held professional affiliations with Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity, the National Association of Military Marching Bands, the Texas Music Educators’ Association, the Texas Bandmasters’ Association, the Association of Texas Small School Bands, the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, and the Michigan Competing Band Association. Percussion Director, West Bloomfield High School Marching Band/Winter Percussion
Chris is the Percussion Director for the WBHS Marching Band and Winter Percussion Ensemble. He began his marching career with Carlson High School Marching Band where he marched for four years, one year on bass and three on snare. After graduating, he marched for two years in the Eastern Michigan University Marching Band playing snare. He began his winter career marching snare drum with Motor City Percussion, and then moved on to play bass drum at Eastside Fury where he aged out in 2011 as the Ensemble Section Leader.
Currently, Chris is a performer with the Detroit Lions Drumline and teaches the West Bloomfield High School Middle School Percussion and Winter Percussion ensembles. In 2014 he helped West Bloomfield Percussion become Scholastic A State Champions. His other teaching experience includes Trenton High School, Carlson High School, Lake Effect Percussion, G-Force Winter Percussion, Ypsilanti Winter Percussion, and Ferndale Winter Drumline.
Matthew Page is the Color Guard Director for the WBHS Marching Band and the Winter Guard JV and Varsity ensembles. He joined the staff of West Bloomfield Bands in 2017 and can be reached at email@example.com.
