Hello West Bloomfield Band families!

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful Spring weather…finally!

Over the weekend we had a Hazardous Waste Tag Day. A BIG thank you to Bonnie Bertin for handling this Tag Day! Bonnie couldn’t have done it without students from Winter Winds, Color Guard, and the Marching Band Hornline. Thanks to all of you!

Winter Percussion had an OUTSTANDING performance over the weekend!

Congratulations to our Winter Percussion Director, Chris Vilag and his staff! What a great season!

We are so incredibly proud of our Winter Percussion for receiving an outstanding score of 84.313 at the WGI World Championship Semi-Finals in Dayton, Ohio! They placed 24th out of the 64 bands that competed in the Worlds competition.

A HUGE thank you to Ruth Richards for organizing all of the Percussion overnight trips this season!

Another HUGE thank you to this season’s Chaperones, Drivers, Pit Crew, Lighting, and Trailer Driver:  Scott Miller, Ruth Richards, Natalie Walls, Anne Marie Collier-Miller, Catherine Hoffman, Christine Karow, Karen Gedz, Dena Raptis, Carmen Luna, Marc Silski, Olaf Walter, Chuck and Jerri Broadwater, everyone that helped with pit, and Emma Long and Ilona Losey for helping with the lights!

Way to Go, WB!

We hope to see you this Tuesday!

The Marching Band New Member social event will be on Tuesday, April 24th. Students should meet in the band room at WBHS at 7:00pm. There will be pizza and light refreshments.  It is free of charge and lots of fun!

There is still time to register!

We are very excited about this season!

We hope your student(s) will join this rewarding program!

Register Online at http://wbbands.info/home/join-us/

Marching Band: Registration is open to all students currently in grades 7-11 residing in the West Bloomfield School District who have experience on wind or percussion instruments. It is highly recommended that students be concurrently enrolled in band class, but this requirement can be waived at the director’s discretion. District students who attend International Academy, Oakland Early College or any private or non-profit school without a marching band are welcome to join!

Color Guard: Students who are not in band class and/or who do not play an instrument may join the Color Guard, a visual ensemble that is an essential part of the Marching Band. Some experience in dance is helpful but not required. The dance elements and equipment skills can be taught to interested students.

Why Join Marching Band?

Participation in marching band demonstrates commitment to an activity and to your school . . . a quality regarded very highly by many colleges.

Adults (teachers, parents, etc.) give students many reasons why they should make music a part of their school careers.  Studies have shown the value of participation in music to student development and achievement in the classroom.  Colleges will look for commitment over your high school years and band is a great activity to have on your resume.  It is hard work and a commitment, but there is so much more. Every year we find most graduating band members say that they cannot imagine high school without Marching Band – best teacher, best class, most fulfilling, and the source of many, many friendships.

Visit http://wbbands.info/home/join-us/ to learn more about cost and what that cost covers for your student.
