MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I want to extend an invitation to all parents interested in helping shape the band program’s fundraising efforts to a committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Abbott Middle School.
This meeting is not only important for our most pressing need – a trailer for marching band and winter programs – but for every facet of Mr. Mielens’ program.
Among the topics we’ll discuss is the annual Spring Swing, in which details will be finalized this week.
I especially implore all newer parents to attend, for these fundraising efforts will help shape your band program.
I hope to see all of you at Abbott on Thursday.
WAY TO GO, WB!!!!!!
WB Winter Winds takes 1st place at the Lakeland Invitational with a score of 72
WB Percussion takes 2nd place at the Lakeland Invitational with a score of 78.450
Varsity Winter Color Guard takes 10th place in the preliminary competition at WGI Flint Regional with a score of 73.02
Festival weekends are over! Congratulations to the Abbott Symphony Band for their success at band festival this year with a rating of II. The OLMS Symphony Band received a rating of I yesterday. The combined bands of WBHS Concert Band and Symphony Band also received a rating of II and the WBHS Symphonic Winds received a rating of I from all of the judges (performance and site reading).
MARCHING BAND 2018 REGISTRATION
Marching Band 2018 registration is opening on March 15!
We hope your student will join this fun and exciting program. This year, we have reduced the fee by $100 per student, to $895! Students will still receive excellent instruction, a week at band camp and at least five performance dates (to be announced). Once again we will offer online registration starting on March 15. Please visit wbbands.info on or after March 15 to access the link.
Here are some important dates. Please mark your calendar!
Thursday March 15 – marching band registration opens
Tuesday April 10 – New and veteran marching band parents are encouraged to attend our next parent meeting, on Tuesday April 10, 7:00 p.m. in the iCenter at WBHS. There will be lots of information for parents to take home, plus our Director of Bands, Chad Mielens, will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the marching band program. In the meantime, parents with questions or concerns are encouraged to e-mail Mr. Mielens at email@example.com.
Tuesday April 24 (time and location to be announced) – The first marching band social gathering. New and veteran students are encouraged to attend this fun, social event. New students are encouraged to bring their instruments so they can learn the WB fight song and a few marching basics. Pizza and desserts will be served. This event is just for fun. It is free and there is no obligation!
Tuesday May 1 – Second marching band social gathering and Reveal Night! Marching band show reveal night is one of the most anticipated evenings of the year. If your student is new or returning, he or she will not want to miss this opportunity to get their first look at the 2018 show! They will learn the show title and theme, and find out who will be drum major(s) and section leaders.
- Prior to the meeting will be another social gathering – students will meet a couple of hours before the meeting for more fun, food and marching basics. Social gathering time and location to be announced.
- Reveal Night will take place at our regular parent meeting time and place, 7:00 p.m. in the I-Center at WBHS.
Our semi-trailer is unfortunately very near the end of its useful life and we must purchase a new one. We knew this day was coming, although we were hoping for another year or two. A new semi-trailer is going to cost up to $20,000 to purchase, paint and retrofit. We must now raise at least $10,000 in order to make this purchase as soon as possible.
Parents are invited to come to a fundraising committee meeting on Thursday, March 15 at Abbott Middle School, starting at 6:30 p.m. (Meeting room details to be announced soon.)
Questions – feel free to e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Materials for the annual flower sale will be distributed starting this week to band students across the district. Our goal is make at least $1,500 in profit. The sale will run from March 19-30. The flowers from this sale are high quality and very reasonably priced. We need as many families to participate as possible and we need volunteers to help out. Please contact email@example.com if you are able to help.
