West Bloomfield Bands E-Newsletter: Week of February 22, 2017

News Updates

Hello West Bloomfield Band families! We hope you enjoyed your Winter Break!

During the break the Varsity Winter Guard traveled to Indianapolis to compete at the WGI Regional. They performed their show “Tomber Amoureax” and received their highest score ever at WGI, 68.9!  Many thanks to all the parents and volunteers who made the trip possible! Best of luck to both Varsity and JV Winter Guard as they compete at MCGC Plymouth Canton on Saturday!

All band students are invited to participate in the Pep Band at a West Bloomfield Laker Hockey game on Saturday February 25!  Students should bring their instruments and wear their WB Band or sports gear and are asked to arrive at Lakeland Arena (7330 Highland Road, Waterford – near the Oakland County Airport) at 5:00 p.m.  Puck drops at 5:30.  The Pep Band will be directed by Sam Silverman.  A stand tune practice will be held in the WBHS band room on Thursday February 23 prior to Winter Winds rehearsal at 3:30 p.m.

The hockey game on February 25 is also a West Bloomfield Community Coalition fundraiser that includes a 50/50 raffle and Swamp White Out. Big crowds are expected! For more information contact Christine Long (christinelong@mac.com) or Sam Silverman.

Volunteers Needed! Spring Swing II is coming up on Friday May 5! Chairperson Anne Marie Collier-Miller is requesting volunteers in the following areas: decorating; requesting appetizer donations from local restaurants; and collecting items for the silent auction.  A Sign Up Genius will go out soon for auction gift basket items.  Questions – contact Anne Marie at bamo72@msn.com.

School Bond Election coming up on May 2! This election is an opportunity for West Bloomfield School District to invest $120 million in updates, renovation and construction throughout the entire district, with a half-mill reduction in the school tax rate. The West Bloomfield Bands will stand to benefit from this election in the form of the addition of an auxiliary gym at WBHS, remodeling of the auditorium and fine arts spaces including additional storage near the WBHS band room, and new musical instruments and equipment for grades K-12. For more information, please visit the Bond Election page on the WBSD website. Information on the bond election will be provided on our website, social media and at parent meetings.

Winter Ensembles – Percussion, Guard and Winds:

A note from the BBAWB Treasurer: At the end of December the Charms office system performed an upgrade. Unfortunately, the data that was entered immediately prior to the upgrade did not post to our student accounts, so we had to go back and re-enter the information.  We believe the accounts are up to date, however we ask that you log in to Charms and check your balance. If the information is not correct, please send us an e-mail at treasurer@wbbands.info.

Winter Percussion: A special rehearsal is scheduled for Friday, February 24 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the band room at Abbott Middle School. Music arranger Andrew Markworth will be in town and has requested this rehearsal.  This rehearsal is vital to the success of WB Winter Percussion this season, so please be sure to attend!

Check the Upcoming Schedule below or the BBAWB calendar for rehearsal dates, times and locations, or for last minute changes, such as school cancellations!
