West Bloomfield Bands E-Newsletter: Week of February 6, 2017

THANK YOU!! West Bloomfield Winter Invitational A HUGE SUCCESS!

Hello West Bloomfield Band families!  Our biggest fundraiser of the year is in the books! The 2017 West Bloomfield Winter Invitational was the largest show in MCGC history, and it was a true team effort.  Together, as a team of 100+ dedicated volunteers comprised of parents, students, siblings, alumni and community members, we hosted 82 groups – a total of 1,600 students, their directors, instructors and staff, and approximately 2,000 paying spectators.

We would like to take a moment to thank ALL of our volunteers, especially event chairperson Christina Nicolaides who spent many hours planning and coordinating this event, assistant chair Christine Karow, volunteer coordinator Ruth Richards, our intrepid front desk volunteers, the student and parent band guides; the many who worked the admissions desk, the door and gate control volunteers all around the gym, the parents and students in concessions, the parking/equipment guys who braved the cold, raffle salespeople, our announcers – including senior dad Geoff Semrau, who handed the microphone to his successor Ruben Luna; the alumni who worked the trophy table, the volunteers in the judges’ lounge who kept the judges well fed, those who worked behind closed doors counting money, the volunteers who supported MCGC with their technology and logistical needs during the contest; the parents who made multiple trips to the grocery store for supplies, our nurse and program ad chair Anne Marie Collier-Miller, our warm up room timers, the parents who helped move our students’ equipment from and back to Abbott, the parents who helped with Elementary Guard and Winter Winds, the families who donated food and beverages, and so many more!

MCGC had very high praise for us and said the day could not have gone better.  We also would like to thank the custodial staff at WBHS who worked tirelessly to make sure the building was clean and functioning during this huge event!

The West Bloomfield ensembles did a wonderful job!  Students, your hard work is paying off!  Junior Varsity Guard placed 4th with their performance of “Statues of Us.”  Varsity Guard placed 4th in their division with their performance of “Tomber Amoureaux.”  West Bloomfield Percussion placed 2nd with their performance of “Into the Canvas.”  Congratulations to the Elementary Guard on their super cute performance of “Don’t Worry Be Happy!”  Also congratulations to Winter Winds on their very first performance of “Eyes Turned Skyward!”
