Marching Band and Color Guard Update:  As of today, we have 69 students registered for marching band!  We are excited to welcome 23 brand new studentsIt is not too late to join this award-winning program, which boasts the State Champion and world-ranked Percussion section and Top 5 Color Guard!

Register for Marching Band Now! It is not too late! If you register your student between now and June 16 you will receive a $25 discount!  Parents can register their student(s) online from anywhere there is internet access, by clicking here. It only takes a few minutes!  More news and information can be found on the marching band page on the WB Bands website: wbbands.info/join-us.

Financial Aid for Marching Band In case you missed the last Parent Meeting, you can find the PowerPoint presentation here.  Most of our parents help pay for marching band and other programs through student accounts!  You can accumulate points in your student’s account to help pay for marching band and other band-related expenses by selling Show Shirt and Program Business Ads (download the form here), Personal Ads and Semi Trailer Ads (more information here). All of our ad sales for marching band have a 50/50 split, meaning half of the money you raise is converted to points for your student account, and the other half goes into WB Bands’ general fund.

Another way to earn points in your student’s account is through Scrips.  Here is a brief explanation of the scrip program:

  • Members buy retail gift cards through the scrip program at face value.  There are hundreds of retailers to choose from!  The cards can be purchased in the form of physical gift cards or electronically as ScripNow. They can be purchased online via PrestoPay, or via cash/check/money order to the BBAWB.  Families can get their scrip in seconds by purchasing ScripNow via PrestoPay.
  • The BBAWB buys the gift cards at 3-15% less than face value depending on the retailer.
  • The difference between face value and what your organization pays is the BBAWB’s earnings.  The BBAWB then splits the earnings 60/40 – 60% is converted to points to the individual student account, 40% goes to the BBAWB general fund.
  • Visit the Great Lakes Scrip website to learn more!

If you have any questions or concerns about paying for marching band, please contact Director of Bands Chad Mielens at chad.mielens@wbsd.org.

Sports Physicals at WBHS If your student is doing Marching Band in the fall, he or she must have a physical.  The Athletics Department at WBHS has announced that Henry Ford Sports Medicine will be offering student athlete physicals at West Bloomfield High School on Wednesday, May 31 from 2:30pm – 5:00pm.  The cost is only $20 per physical.  You must register (a link to the Sign Up Genius can be found here.).  There are still appointments available, so register soon!

BBAWB Annual Meeting The BBAWB Annual Meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday June 6, 2017 in the iCenter at WBHS.  In lieu of a May parent meeting, the slate of board candidates as well as the 2017-2018 budget will be presented via e-mail.

Open Board Position There is still one open board position for the 2017-2018 fiscal year: Secretary. You can find the description of this role here. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Board of Directors of the BBAWB, contact us at wbbands@gmail.com.
