Dear Band, Color Guard and Percussion Members and Families,
Hearty congratulations to our Varsity Winter Guard, who competed at WGI World Championships this week. They placed 8th in prelims with a score of 75.430. Unfortunately they did not move on to semifinals but we are so proud of them!
Winter Percussion heads to Dayton this week to compete in the percussion segment of WGI World Championships. Have you seen the red hair several ensemble members are sporting? They are on fire!
In order to accommodate our Winter Percussion and Jazz Band students – many of whom are in Marching Band – who will be rehearsing or performing on April 12, we have decided to move the 2016 Marching Band “reveal” portion of our parent meeting to April 19.
We will still have a regular parent meeting on April 12! The agenda for Tuesday’s parent meeting will be simple. The main topics will be:
- Marching Band – early registration deadline April 18; reveal night April 19!
- May 20 Fundraiser – volunteers needed!
Bonus: early registration for Marching Band will be extended for one more week. Register by April 18 and receive $50 off of the fee.

Scrip News -Low Denomination Gift Cards are Coming Back Soon! Starting Saturday, April 9, a limited number of special small denomination gift cards became available, perfect for teacher gifts and grad parties! These cards will only be available while supplies last, so don’t wait to place your orders. The following cards will be available:
Amazon.com Gift Cards $10
AMC Theatres® $10
Barnes & Noble $5
Regal Entertainment Group $10
These low denomination gift cards make great gifts for the special people in your life.
So, how are we doing with scrips? In the first quarter of the year, Booster families made $11,900 in scrip purchases, which resulted in $636.89 in rebates. If we maintained this level of participation and purchases for the year, that would grow to (roughly) $2,500 raised, $1,500 for band families, $1,000 for the band funds. Are those big enough numbers to encourage your participation? Doubling or even tripling those numbers is achievable if more people can get into a scrip buying/using habit.
Every purchase brings a rebate, and 60% goes to the to student’s points account, while 40% goes toward instruments, sectional instruction, music program scholarships, equipment purchase, and other initiatives supported by the Band Boosters. Go to wbbands.info/fundraising/scrip-program/ and order SCRIP (gift cards). The rewards for every purchase add up! And the more people who participate, the faster the rewards grow. Questions about how it works? Please contact Marci Grossman. Of course, if you don’t want to buy scrip, you can always just make a donation to the band. The benefits of being a 501(c)3: A donation is tax deductible.
Spring SWING Fundraiser and Silent Auction MaY 20
Come see the WBHS Jazz Orchestra, Middle School Jazz Band, Winter Guard and State Solo and Ensemble participants entertain you while enjoying appetizers and beverages in a beautiful lakeside location along the shore of Orchard Lake. Sponsorships available!
We want to show off all the band students, so we’re in search of pictures of all students performing, in their early years through the present: Middle school through high school; Jazz bands, color guard, marching band, concert band–solo ensemble–all pictures and ALL grades, from sixth on up! Email the pictures to Anne Marie Collier Miller.
Silent Auction Donations
WE ARE LOOKING FOR ITEMS TO BUILD BASKETS FOR THE AUCTION.
Click Here to access the Sign Up Genius with the list of the different theme baskets we will be working on. There are items listed under each theme that we would like for the baskets. If you have a great item that would go along with the theme, but don’t see it listed, please add it in the “Other” slot.
Also, if you have a theme basket you want to build and donate, at the very bottom is a space that you can enter your theme basket. All donations are due NO LATER than May 3, 2016 at the parent meeting. We will be having a basket-building day, so look for that sign-up as well.
