West Bloomfield Bands Newsletter – Week of August 11, 2013

Dear Marching Band Family,

The 2013 WBHS Marching Band Season is well underway … the kids are marching, spinning and playing very well!!!

We are going to start learning drill this week, so it is very important that all of the students (except for those in the front ensemble) have a set book.  A set book is a 3X5 inch spiral note book tied to a string, so that they can wear it around their neck during rehearsal.  They will also need a pencil attached to the set book so that they can write in their coordinates for our drill.

REHEARSALS
Full marching band rehearsals this week Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 4:00pm.  It is very important that all absences are communicated as far in advance as possible.  Please send an email to both directors (directors@wbbands.info) if you (or your child) will be absent.  If you are in battery or front ensemble, please also send an email to pat@pat-mclaughlin.com.  If your daughter is in color guard, please also email Mark at dedeckeremark@gmail.com.  Everyone on the marching field relies on the person next to them for musical blend and visual spacing, so it is very important that we always have close to perfect attendance.  For a full rehearsal and performance schedule, visit our website at wbbands.info and click on the “Calendar“.

REMINDERS:
–  bring a large jug of water with your name on it
–  bring a sack lunch (lunch will be from 12:00pm – 1:00pm)
–  bring/wear sunscreen
–  wear comfortable shorts – nothing saggy, no low cut tops or bare midriffs and wear flexible tennis shoes
–  arrive early so that we can start on time (most students arrive no later than 8:45am)
–  please check to make sure you are up to date on your marching band registration forms and payments
–  please check that your instrument is in perfect working order, as we will be spending lots of time in sectionals working on music
