West Bloomfield Bands Newsletter – Week of August 4, 2013
Dear Marching Band Family,
The 2013 Marching Band season officially starts tomorrow!! New member parents – please take a few minutes after rehearsal on WEDNESDAY, August 6 for refreshments right outside the band room. This will be a great opportunity for you to enjoy a cup of coffee, get to know some of our veteran band parents and ask any questions that you may have.
2013 Marching Band: We are very excited to start the 2013 Marching Band season!! Full marching band rehearsals start TOMORROW, Monday, August 4 from 9:00am – 4:00pm. It is very important that all absences are communicated as far in advance as possible. Please send an email to both directors (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you (or your child) will be absent. If you are in battery or front ensemble, please also send an email to email@example.com. If your daughter is in color guard, please also email Mark at firstname.lastname@example.org. Everyone on the marching field relies on the person next to them for musical blend and visual spacing, so it is very important that we always have close to perfect attendance. – bring a large jug of water with your name on it
– bring a sack lunch (lunch will be from 12:00pm – 1:00pm)
– bring/wear sunscreen
– wear comfortable shorts – nothing saggy, no low cut tops or bare midriffs and wear flexible tennis shoes
– arrive early so that we can start on time (most students arrive no later than 8:45am)
– please check to make sure you are up to date on your marching band registration forms and payments
– please check that your instrument is in perfect working order, as we will be spending lots of time in sectionals working on music

We have a brand new FUN fundraiser beginning this week! The Marching band is the proud owner of 2 flocks of 25 pink, plastic flamingos. You remember those yard ornaments right? In this case, Band members use the flamingos to, anonymously and under the cover of darkness, “decorate” member’s lawns. Specifically, a section from our band group gets it started by paying the BBAWB to place the flock of garish, pink, plastic flamingos on another member’s front lawn, and the homeowner is so traumatized by the site of the garish, pink, plastic birds they immediately call the number on the flyer left behind to arrange the birds’ removal. Of course, there is a charge for the removal and re-establishment of habitats to another member’s lawn. Those fees are paid by the second member, and so on. For those sensitive/allergic to “feathers”, we will also be selling “anti-flocking insurance” that will guarantee their home to be flamingo-free for the duration of the fundraiser.

UNIFORM HELP IS NEEDED!
Uniform fitting day is Wednesday, August 14 from 9:00am – 3:00pm (or earlier) at WBHS. Several volunteers are needed to make this day a success! Please contact Heide Dronchi at email@example.com to volunteer today!

Bring: your checkbook or cash. Hungry Howies Gift Certificates for a medium pizza will be on sale for $7. For every gift certificate you buy, $4 will go into your student’s account!! Also on sale will be SCRIPS gift cards. Buy gift cards for gas, food, clothing, home improvements, etc while earning money for your student’s account.
BINGO is up and running every Friday night! Add $30/week to your student’s band account and volunteer today. August and September signups are now available at wbbands.info/bingo.
We are looking to add a few more corporate sponsors to purchase a trailer ad on the side of our semi trailer. Please contact John Boruta at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in purchasing one, know of a business that is interested or are able to help go to businesses, and ask them to purchase an ad. All corporate sponsors will get an ad on both sides of the trailer, advertising on our website and advertising in our concert band programs. Click HERE for more information.
