Hello Band, Guard and Drumline families!
It is an exciting week for the WB Band Program! Winter drumline and color guard are both off to fantastic starts and our high school jazz band had its first rehearsal last week. The biggest event this week, though, is our Winter Festival of Bands on Thursday, December 11th. All bands grades 7-12 in the district will be performing at this concert. We look forward to seeing all of you there!
Director of Bands
West Bloomfield High School
We need a couple volunteers to come in on Wednesday to take uniform measurements. Beginning of rehearsal would be best (5:00 at Abbott Middle School) but it’d be okay if it was later. Please contact me if you’re able to help!

Save the Date and Sign Up to Volunteer!
We have been awarded the opportunity to host two Winter Guard/Drumline shows: January 31, 2015 and March 14, 2015! Running our band program is expensive and events like these raise the most funds in the shortest amount of time. Last winter we hosted the largest winter invitational in MCGC history and we earned $10,600 profit! This year’s January show should be just as large, and the March show, while smaller, is already booking up! To be able to host such events, we will need all of our current band parents (at every grade level) and many of our faithful alumni parents to volunteer to work a shift or two. Please contact Ruth Richards today at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer. It is a lot of fun, and amazing to see all the Guard and Drumline units from all over the state in competition. But we will need everybody’s help!
BAND EQUIPMENT SALES COORDINATOR NEEDED
Have you ever wondered what happens to last year’s guard uniforms and flags, or the Winter Drumline tarp from two years ago? We hope to sell them to another school’s guard or drumline. In fact, the “For Sale” page on our web site is one of the most visited pages we have. Now, a volunteer is needed to take over the sales of our used items. It is time sensitive and requires follow-through and creative problem-solving skills.
The job entails:
- Getting a request for a purchase
- Finding out to where we are shipping
- Going to a shipping place with the items and the destination (we have been using going postal, other options are sought) and getting a cost.
- Sending an invoice out
- Hope for a reply to the invoice – often the shipping cost puts them off and then they just don’t reply –
- Collecting the check or PO if the item sells
- Shipping the items. If the items don’t sell they need to be returned to the band room.
This needs to be someone with time during business hours, creative shipping ideas, and tenacity to secure commitments from buyers. Email president@wbbands for more info. .
