Dear Band, Color Guard and Percussion Members and Families,
Hope you had the chance to see the first performance on Marching Band 2016 at the Keego Harbor Memorial Day Parade. They are looking pretty sharp! Special props to the Battery, which also marched in Sylvan Lake’s parade.
Thank you to all the families who came out to bd’s Mongolian Grill on Tuesday for our May Restaurant fundraiser. It was a blast to see Mr. Mielens vs. Chris Vilag and Mama Karow vs. Mama Boyle with the dueling swords. It was so much fun, we’re considering booking another date in the fall.
On Tuesday, the BBAWB holds its Annual Meeting. Attendance is mandatory for parents/guardians of all extracurricular program members and highly encouraged for parents of curricular band members. Plan on joining us for our BBAWB Annual Meeting on June 7 at 7pm in the WBHS i-Center. We will be voting on the proposed 2016-2017 budget as well as voting in our BBAWB officers for the coming year. The Band Boosters anticipate income and expenses of nearly $230k next year, and you should understand where the money comes from and goes to. Nominations for Board members are still being accepted at firstname.lastname@example.org . The proposed budget will available for review soon, it is undergoing final adjustments.
The Middle School and High School band classes have all had their final concerts of the year, so those families will be taken off the weekly email distribution list after this week, but you will get notifications of any Band Boosters events (meetings, restaurant nights, car washes, etc) going on throughout the summer.
Congratulations to the Class of 2016! Best wishes for a brilliant future, and many thanks for your contributions to the West Bloomfield bands throughout the years. MARCHING BAND MINI-CAMP JUNE 17
Dates: Friday, June 17 12-4pm
Who: All students in grades 8 – 12 (Fall 2016). These rehearsals are required for all current marching band members (Color Guard, Winds and Battery). We would also like to invite those student considering marching band to come join us. Come try it out! Front Ensemble (Pit): Come in and work on exercises/music.
What to Bring: lunch, large water bottle, hat, sunglasses, wear sturdy athletic shoes
We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday and very excited to kick-off the 2016 Marching Band season! Be sure to bring a friend to come try it out! No experience is necessary
CONCERT BAND UNIFORM RETURN
7th through 12th grade: KEEP your bow tie. This can be used again next year and on if you continue in band. If you have no use for the bow ties after the last concert, and you want to donate them back to the band, please leave them in the inside pocket of your coat.
Tuxedo Coats (and shirts, if applicable) are to be hung on the racks in the corner of each band room. If they are not returned to this rack, and only this rack, you will be charged $200 replacement fee for a coat and $25 for a shirt. Any questions? TIGERS GAMES CONCESSIONS
If you have signed up to volunteer for the Tigers game on June 3rd, 7th, or 8th, these have been cancelled due to not enough people. I will send a new sign up out with different dates; hopefully we will get more participation! If I get an overwhelming response to a different day, I can change it. Do weekends work better for you? Shoot me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let me know. The purpose in selecting the midday games is they come with a BONUS amount.
The proceeds are not going to the band general funding. You, Yes You, will get 90% of the profit (divided by number of volunteers), directly to your band student’s account. What can you do with that? Pay band fees, banquet tickets, order shirts, or whatever band related cost might come across your desk. Your child only does winter percussion/guard? No problem, there is an account already set up for them. You have a few people willing to volunteer? Anyone who volunteers can credit a specific student to help.
This a great opportunity for all involved. Must be 18 or older to volunteer, as all stands sell alcohol. Uniform is black pants, white shirt, black, closed toe, closed heel shoes. Hat and Tigers shirt provided at the venue. Parking is $2. 1 meal is provided.
Come on everyone; let’s make this happen. I hate to bow out of this terrific opportunity due to lack of interest.
May was a really good month for scrip. $5215 in scrip gift card purchases has created $345.65 in rebates for the band and families. If we did this all year we would end up with $4147.80 for an annual scrip rebate total. Not bad for a fundraiser with virtually no cost. If your family likes to go to movies, AMC has a 5% bonus rebate through June 10. This means AMC rebates during this time period will be 13%.
Every purchase brings a rebate, and 60% goes to the to student’s points account, while 40% goes toward instruments, sectional instruction, music program scholarships, equipment purchase, and other initiatives supported by the Band Boosters. Go to wbbands.info/fundraising/scrip-program/ and order SCRIP (gift cards). The rewards for every purchase add up! And the more people who participate, the faster the rewards grow. PHYSICALS REQUIRED FOR MARCHING BAND
Remember, all marching band participants must provide the completed medical forms before participating in the June 17 mini-camp. Your family physician or a mini-clinic can perform a sports physical. It is a requirement from the State of Michigan that any athlete participating in a West Bloomfield School District sport or marching band will NEED a physical conducted AFTER APRIL 15 to try out or participate in athletics. Copies of the MHSAA Physical Form and Medication Form are found in the green enrollment folders. If for any reason you are not able to have the physical completed before the mini-camp, you must email email@example.com to discuss.

We are looking for a fresh look with our Marching Band PRIDE shirts for the next two upcoming falls. Anyone interested in submitting a design should do so by June 10th, 2pm.

-“West Bloomfield Marching Band 2016”
The shirt will be printed on a green shirt this year (with white, gray and black as possible graphic colors), with a grey shirt next year (with white, black and green as possible graphic colors).
