As this year is closing we just want to thank you for all of your continued help and support and please remember that we cannot do what we do for our kids without your help! We are excited about the coming 2015-2016 school year and have many events lined up or in the planning stages that will give us critical fund-raising opportunities to support our school music programs.

Dates: Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12

Time: Thursday 12 noon – 4pm, Friday 9am – 4pm

Who: All students in grades 8 – 12 (Fall 2015). These rehearsals are required for all current marching band members (Color Guard, Winds and Battery). We would also like to invite those student considering marching band to come join us. Come try it out!  
What to Bring
: lunch, large water bottle, hat, sunglasses. Wear sturdy athletic shoes.

Marching Band registration is STILL open!  But if you’re a marching band veteran and figured you’d turn in those forms at rehearsals in July, DON’T WAIT!!! Mr. Mielens is giving final numbers to the show designer on June 12, so you MUST get your registration forms and initial payment in by June 11. CLICK HERE to request a registration packet. RECRUITING CONTEST: Every registered Marching Band member who recruits a new person to join is entered in a contest. The recruiter who brings in the most new members can win a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones! Get those registration papers in by June 11 to qualify!

Help our Marching Band Raise Money for their Trip to the Bands of America National Competition!

The West Bloomfield High School Marching Band is having a car wash to help raise money for their trip to the Bands of America National Competition in Indianapolis in November.  Bring all your cars, your friends’ cars and your neighbors’ cars! Vouchers were passed out at the parade rehearsal, and more will be available at this week’s mini-camps. All band members are expected to bring in 10 donations of at least $5 ($10 is better!)

Date:  Saturday, July 25, 2015
Time:  10:00am – 4:00pm
Location:  Holy Spirit Lutheran Church  (across the street from West Bloomfield High School)

We will need to borrow hoses and buckets, donations of soap to wash the cars, and snacks and water for the people helping.  Watch for a Sign-Up Genius soon. Dress to wash, but please follow WB School dress code. If you want to wear swimsuits, wear a shirt (plus shorts for girls) over your swimsuit.

“PRIDE” SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST – Each year, the Marching Band members receive a West Bloomfield Marching Band Pride shirt to wear at the first performance on the new show, on the last night of band camp. Students are encouraged to submit a design for this year’s shirt. See Mr. Mielens for the design specifics. Design entries are due June 11.


In the last 9 months, The BBAWB has been generously given $1042 from the Kroger Community Rewards program.  This is the result of 35 families registering their Kroger card and shopping at Kroger!

Have you ever wondered what happens to last year’s guard uniforms and flags, or the Winter Drumline tarp from two years ago? We hope to sell them to another school’s guard or drumline. In fact, the “For Sale” page on our web site is one of the most visited pages we have. Now, a volunteer is needed to take over the sales of our used items.  It is time sensitive and requires follow-through and creative problem-solving skills.

The job entails:

Getting a request for a purchase

Finding out to where we are shipping

Going to a shipping place with the items and the destination (we have been using going postal, other options are sought) and getting a cost.

Sending an invoice out

Hope for a reply to the invoice – often the shipping cost puts them off and then they just don’t reply –

Collecting the check or PO if the item sells

Shipping the items.  If the items don’t sell they need to be returned to the band room.

This needs to be someone with time during business hours, creative shipping ideas, and tenacity to secure commitments from buyers. Email president@wbbands for more info.  .
