Silent Auction Donations

The Silent Auction is almost here. We are looking for donations from retailers, crafters, or other businesses to help support this event. These Auction items are already confirmed:

  • The go-cart being used in the 2015 Winter Drumline show
  • The well being used in the 2015 Varsity Winter Guard show
  • A closer flag from this year’s Varsity Winter Guard show
  • A Painting
  • WBHS Student Parking pass for 2015-2016
  • Laser tag with Mr Mielens
  • Varsity Jacket
  • Blanket
  • Craft items
  • Book from Oakland parks
  • Golf pass
  • Marching Band basket (Certificate for Dinkles (or guard shoes), gloves and Show Shirt, water jug, set book with lanyard, folder with page protectors, lyre, sunscreen, lip balm, hand warmers, Kleenex, and snacks

A fun twist this year, Silent Auction Chair Anne Marie Collier Miller is also looking for people to help and donate items from the list below so she can build themed baskets to also have in the auction. She is still looking for items for the baskets for the silent auction. She has a good start on the following baskets- chocolate lovers, cat and dog, game night, movie night, all occasion card basket, sports basket, and unexpectedly basic household needs (good for our seniors heading to college).
Donations needed: mugs (4), laundry basket (1), teas, coffee creamers, frisbees, soccer ball, football, other sport items, more animal items, plain deck of cards or anything else you can think of…thanks in advance!

If you know a vendor who would make a donation, please take the letter you find by clicking HERE to your favorite retailers, restaurants and service providers to see if they will donate to our auction. Email Anne Marie Collier with any questions. The more items we have, the more exciting the auction!

Solo & Ensemble Awards

Apologies to Senior Lilly Richards, who was inadvertently left off our list of Solo and Ensemble participants.   Lilly earned a Superior “1” rating in Percussion at the January Solo and Ensemble adjudications. Great job!

March Invitational

Our second winter invitational is in less than two weeks! Please email Ruth Richards to volunteer. MCGC has not yet set the schedule but we anticipate an afternoon/evening show. At this time, 25 groups are signed up to compete at our second Invitational on March 14th. The even will begin later in the day, and conclude earlier. This will be a fun opportunity to see the progress of these groups as they are nearing the end of the season, gearing up for State Finals on March 28-29. Your help is most definitely needed.

BAND EQUIPMENT SALES COORDINATOR NEEDED

Have you ever wondered what happens to last year’s guard uniforms and flags, or the Winter Drumline tarp from two years ago? We hope to sell them to another school’s guard or drumline. In fact, the “For Sale” page on our web site is one of the most visited pages we have. Now, a volunteer is needed to take over the sales of our used items.  It is time sensitive and requires follow-through and creative problem-solving skills.

The job entails:

  1. Getting a request for a purchase
  2. Finding out to where we are shipping
  3. Going to a shipping place with the items and the destination (we have been using going postal, other options are sought) and getting a cost.
  4. Sending an invoice out
  5. Hope for a reply to the invoice – often the shipping cost puts them off and then they just don’t reply –
  6. Collecting the check or PO if the item sells
  7. Shipping the items.  If the items don’t sell they need to be returned to the band room.

This needs to be someone with time during business hours, creative shipping ideas, and tenacity to secure commitments from buyers. Email president@wbbands for more info.  .
