Spring SWING Fundraiser and Silent Auction MaY 20
Come see the WBHS Jazz Orchestra, Middle School Jazz Band, Winter Guard and State Solo and Ensemble participants entertain you while enjoying appetizers and beverages in a beautiful lakeside location along the shore of Orchard Lake. Sponsorships available! We have 3 sponsors already… Durham Transportation, Team Keego and Cathy Shaughnessy.

Band Booster Alumnus Extraordinaire John Boruta will be honored at the West Bloomfield School Board Meeting on Monday, May 23 at 7pm at WBHS. Please join us to celebrate and thank him for his ongoing contributions to our program. John DOES NOT KNOW he is receiving an award, so PLEASE don’t spill the beans!
KEEGO HARBOR MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Who should attend:
All new and previous marching band members, or any student considering joining marching band. All are welcome!
Monday, May 23rd 3:00-4:30pm. Clinic designed for new marchers to learn the basics, sessions taking place at both Abbott Middle School and OLMS.
Friday, May 27th 4-7pm. Meet in the WBHS Band Room (Room 471).
Parade schedule (Monday, May 30th):
• 8:30 a.m. Meet at Abbott Middle School. We will gather outside, around the area near the band room. The school will not be open, so please do not bring cases.
• 8:30-10:00 a.m. Pre-parade warmup and rehearsal
• 10:00 a.m. Parade begins (start at Abbott, end at Keego Harbor City Hall, 2025 Beechmont, Keego Harbor MI 48320)
• ~12:30 p.m. Ceremony ends, load buses to take students back to Abbott. Students may also be picked up from the Keego Harbor City Hall.
School buses will provide transport from the ceremony back to Abbott Middle School.
What to wear:
• Athletic shoes (no sandals or flip-flops. These can cause injury while marching)
• Jean shorts, or pants.
• A plain red, white, or blue tee shirt.
We are looking for some donations of snacks and water for the kids for after the parade. Items can be dropped off with band members at Abbott at drop off, or along the treeline behind Keego Harbor City Hall, where a truck will be parked before the parade. There is ice cream and water offered by parade organizers after the parade, but it is never enough for our kids. And whatever is leftover goes to band camp with the kids! TIGERS GAMES CONCESSIONS
We are looking for YOU! When the idea of working concessions at Detroit Tigers games (average earnings $7000 over the season for non-profit groups) came up, it was met with great enthusiasm. Now, we need to prove we can make the commitment necessary to participate. We need parents (or family, friends, siblings) to volunteer for a Tigers game (or 2). Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, as alcohol sales are included. Project chair Kirsten Watkins-White has picked 10 games, and needs at least 10 people per game to sign up. There is a 1-day training session required before working. The uniform is black pants, white shirt, black belt, and black, closed heel, closed toe shoes. The company provides a hat and shirt. One meal is provided. Parking is $2 per car, but carpooling is encouraged! We know that people have jobs, but I tried to pick a couple day games, because there is a bonus for working those!
If you are willing to do this, the Band Boosters is willing to split the profit with the volunteers 90/10. That’s 90% of the amount received for each volunteer goes to the student’s points account. The other 10% goes toward BBAWB Financial Aid funds. The amount for each game will vary because it is based on a percentage of concessions sales.

We’ve had a great start on Scrip purchases for the month of May, with $2370 in purchases, creating $181 in rebates so far. If you haven’t yet gotten into the scrip buying habit, please consider joining us. If you are new to the marching band, buying and using scrip is a great way to raise funds for both the band and your student’s points account. Members have paid for show shirts, band banquet, band payments, and more from points earned with scrip. It’s the only no cost fundraiser we know of!
Every purchase brings a rebate, and 60% goes to the to student’s points account, while 40% goes toward instruments, sectional instruction, music program scholarships, equipment purchase, and other initiatives supported by the Band Boosters. Mr. Mielens and Chris Vilag are both scheduled to be dueling sword guest chefs, and the Battle of the Band Moms is set, with Mama Christine Karow taking on Mama Sarah Boyle. PHYSICALS REQUIRED FOR MARCHING BAND
Remember, all marching band participants must provide the completed medical forms before participating in the June 17 mini-camp. Your family physician or a mini-clinic can perform a sports physical. As a convenience, the WBHS Athletic Department will offer appointments for physicals on Wednesday, June 1, 2016
Who: Any person of middle or high school age needing a physical for the 2015-2016 school year. Heart checks are only for those 14 and older.
What: This is a preparticipation physical examination (just like a yearly physical from your own doctor) performed by family physicians and orthopedic/sports medicine doctors from the Henry Ford Health System. Any athlete participating in a West Bloomfield School District sport or marching band will NEED a physical to try out or participate in athletics.
When: Wednesday, June 1, 2016 2:30 to 5:00 pm. You may call the high school athletic office at (248)865-6743(248)865-6743 to make your appointment.
Where: Physicals will be held at West Bloomfield High School starting outside of the athletic office.
Cost: $20 cash or check payable to the West Bloomfield Athletic Department. Heart checks are an additional $5. Physical may be done alone but if doing a heart check athlete must get a physical.
You’ll Need: You will need to bring $20 or $25 and a filled out copy of the MHSAA physical card/medical history form. This can be found at in your registration packet or on the wbbands web site: Physical Form .
