Dear Band, Color Guard and Percussion Members and Families,

Wow! What a great week for our band program! Tuesday, the WBHS Jazz and Concert Bands performed their Finale Concert. Congratulations to our graduating seniors. We are so proud of all of you and will really miss you! “Congratulations” also goes out to the three winners or the peer-voted awards: Seth Betman for the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, Hershal Satam for the Patrick Gilmore Band Award and Andrew McDonald for the John Philip Sousa Band Award. Well Done!

Our Spring Swing fundraiser on Friday was a great success, and we look forward to making this an annual tradition. Thank you to event chair Anne Marie Collier-Miller, food/beverage coordinator Kirstin Watkins-Miller, our donors, the crew of decorators, and our student performers for making it such a special evening. Then on Saturday, 45 OLMS and Abbott Band students joined together as “West Bloomfield Middle School” to compete at Art in the Park in Sandusky Ohio before a fun day at Cedar Point.

And the fun continues! Monday, our Marching Band veterans offer a Clinic for newer members of the band to prepare for next week’s Memorial Day Parade in Keego Harbor. A full-band rehearsal takes place Friday afternoon. Still not sure about Marching Band? Come to the Clinics at OLMS and Abbott or the rehearsal on Friday and give it a try! See below for details. ps, graduating Seniors are encouraged to participate in this last chance to march as a Laker!

We are looking for some donations of snacks and water for the kids for after the parade. Items can be dropped off with band members at Abbott at drop off, or along the treeline behind Keego Harbor City Hall, a truck will be parked before the parade. There is ice cream and water offered by parade organizers after the parade, but it is never enough for our kids. And whatever is leftover goes to band camp with the kids!   Click the link below to sign up.

I am once again reaching out to you to volunteer for any Tiger’s game, working in the concession stand. I have chosen 10 dates, but these are not confirmed dates. If I get an overwhelming response to a different day, I can change it. Do weekends work better for you? Shoot me an email ( and let me know. The purpose in the midday games is they come with a BONUS amount.
The proceeds are not going to the band general funding. You, Yes You, will get 90% of the profit (divided by number of volunteers), directly to your band student’s account. What can you do with that? Pay band fees, banquet tickets, order shirts, or whatever band related cost might come across your desk. Your child only does winter percussion/guard? No problem, there is an account already set up for them. You have a few people willing to volunteer? Anyone who volunteers can credit a specific student to help.
This a great opportunity for all involved. Must be 18 or older to volunteer, as all stands sell alcohol. Uniform is black pants, white shirt, black, closed toe, closed heel shoes. Hat and Tigers shirt provided at the venue. Parking is $2. 1 meal is provided.
Come on everyone; let’s make this happen. I hate to bow out of this terrific opportunity due to lack of interest.
