Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

Congratulations on a fantastic performance at Ford Field on Saturday! The show was very well received by the MCBA community, and our 8th place finish with a score of 90.425 (80.850 raw) was our highest since 2011. The program is well on its way to competing at the top of Flight I. Thank you to the parents, staff and students for making State Finals a successful day.

That all being said, we have one more week and another huge performance. Working towards BOA, we will rehearse Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3-6pm. Our BOA schedule for Thursday-Sunday was sent out in a separate email, so please reference that for information on our trip plans.

Let’s have another successful week!

Go Lakers!

Chad Mielens

WBHS Director of Bands

OLMS Recruiting Trip

The performance planned for OLMS on Monday November 9, has been postponed in favor of the mandatory assemblies at WBHS on Monday morning. We hope to reschedule the trip very soon.   Mr Mielens will provide further details as they become available.

BOA GRAND NATIONALS IN INDIANAPOLIS

This is what we have been working toward all season: The opportunity to compete among the most elite marching bands in the nation! This is the Olympics of our sport, and while it is not expected for WBHS to make it to finals, we will be there in the stands to see the spectacular shows of the top 12 bands in the county. It is really an opportunity not to be missed.

UNIFORMS

Does your Marching Band uniform need freshening after Saturday’s hard work at Ford Field?   CLICK HERE to see cleaning Instructions. If necessary, Dinkles can be cleaned with soap and water or diluted leather cleaners. A shine can be put back on the leather with a car care product such as Armorall® or what works really well is Armorall® wipes. Make sure your uniform is clean, wrinkle–free and complete before departure on Thursday.

BOA GRAND NATIONALS PAPER PLATE AWARDS

Band Parents have a tradition of creating paper plate signs for the band members, wishing them good luck and encouraging them to do well at State Finals. If you didn’t have a chance to o so before, you can still make a paper plate award for your child and hang it on the band room wall to encourage them before the Indy trip. Bring strong tape since the walls are cinder block.

SUPER LAKERS:

Give it up for Mrs. Brenner, who planned our super fun Trunk Or Treat so band kids could enjoy Halloween after the Lakeland show;

Mark DeDeckere who has found buyers for the costumes and tarp from “All Will Be Well” (Can we make it a hat-trick and sell them the well, too?);

Gia Evans, Jared Grimes, Nathan Bertin, and Andrew McDonald who stepped up to the responsibility of featured parts in Venezia, and performed beautifully;

Steve Alia, who designed us a great show, believed in us, supported us, came to our rehearsals, inspired us, and even helped hoist the tarp at State Finals. Not just a Laker now, but a Super Laker!

MARCHING BAND BANQUET NOV 22
