Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

It was another busy, but exciting week for WB. I have several people to thank this week:

  • Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped put on a wonderful tailgate at homecoming this year. It was another fantastic success!
  • Thank you as well to all of the middle school students who attending our parade, tailgate and football victory over Oxford. It was wonderful to see so many middle schoolers participating.
  • A big thank you to Christine Long for organizing our middle school clinics and leading the charge on recruiting this week.
  • Finally, a big thank you to the members of the WB Marching Band for representing themselves well and making everyone feel at home.

We have a busy week ahead, so get ready to be “All in for WB”.

Go Lakers!

Super Lakers: This has been a shining season for Laker Marching Band members and volunteers. This week we recognize:

  • The section leaders both official and unofficial for exceptional leadership and teaching middle school students the songs for Homecoming Parade workshop and football game!
  • Riley Grossman Lempert and Ellie Goldkamp were specifically identified as welcoming and helpful.
  • Mr. Stein is recognized for encouraging his students to participate, accompanying them along the parade route, and making sure they had the proper instruments
  • Christine Long. She took “wouldn’t it be cool to have a marching workshop for middle schoolers” to a reality that vastly exceeded our expectations. According to Mr. Mielens, 50 middle schoolers marched in the parade on Friday evening! We owe the success of the Homecoming Parade to Mrs. Long’s energy and enthusiasm! Thanks, Mrs. Long!

From Kirstin Watkins-White:

Thank you to all those who donated and volunteered for the Homecoming Tailgate. It was a huge success! An extra special thank you goes to Christine Karow and Sarah Boyle, who stepped up and took control of the event. I couldn’t do what I do without all of you!

We’re down to 5 weeks left in the marching band season and several of you have not yet completed your payments.  Please be aware that the marching season fees need to be paid IN FULL before you can join one of our winter programs (Winter Percussion (formerly Winter Drumline), JV Guard or Varsity Guard).  If you do not know your account balance and are unable to access your account in Charms, please email us at .
PRISM CONCERT – The Prism Concert is a highlight for our community. The Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Music programs combine to present a fast-paced salute to the Arts at WBHS. Dress rehearsal is on Monday, Oct 19 (Call time 6pm, watch in case changes are announced). Students who are in MARCHING BAND ONLY do not need to attend rehearsal. Students who are in any WBHS band, orchestra or choir are required to remain for the entire rehearsal. The concert on Wednesday 10/21 at 7pm opens with the Marching Band performing “Venezia”. Marching Band rehearsal will be altered to allow members to have a quick meal and change into uniform before reporting. Due to the short amount of time between band practice and concert, the Band Boosters are arranging a meal of 1 slice pizza, chips, fruit, cookies and water or Gatorade for $5. To participate, PLEASE CLICK HERE to sign up. Payment should be made in advance with cash or check to BBAWB in an envelope labeled with the child’s name and “Prism Meal,” placed in the Band Boosters mail box in the band room.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE FORMED: BBAWB President Christine Karow has scheduled the first Fundraising Committee meeting of the year for Wednesday October 14, at 7pm in the WBHS band room. All current, former and future band parents are invited and encouraged to participate!

This first meeting will consist of looking at what works, what doesn’t, and how best to move forward with fundraising that is high quality, profitable and hopefully as infrequent as possible!

One key to our success will be to further engage the local business community and build relationships that will be long lasting and mutually beneficial. The hope is to sow the seeds for a great business community engagement strategy at this first meeting.

The ultimate goal… is to once and for all cross the items off of our wish list and get the ball rolling on a fund for new concert and marching band uniforms!

A final agenda will be distributed at the meeting. In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns you can share them at .

Registration has been extended!  In an effort to allow those who couldn’t make the initial meeting last week, we have extended registration 2 more weeks!

The entire band program – middle school, high school, and marching band – will be participating in a fundraiser offering Yankee Candles this fall to assist with instrument repair and purchase. Packets will be distributed soon. Orders can be taken ONLY Oct 23 – Nov 7 (orders must be turned in no later than Nov 7), and products will be delivered 2-4 weeks later, in time for the holidays. Collect money at the time of the order. Checks should be payable to BBAWB.

Also, an online shopping option will allow friends and family anywhere to take advantage of these wonderful products.   Online shopping will be available shortly, and open through the end of the year. Online orders are sent directly to the purchaser, usually in about a week.  It’s a great option!  This was a popular and productive fundraiser last year, we hope for even better responses in 2015. A parent volunteer is needed to assist fundraising coordinator Sarah Boyle. Interested? Any other questions? Email Sarah Boyle.
