Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

Another exciting week for the WBHS Marching Band! Our show at Clarkston was a great learning experience, and a good opportunity to see some more of the Flight I bands we will compete against at State Finals in two weeks. See the schedule below for next Saturday at Lakeland High School.

It’s a busy week. Lots of information will be coming home. We’re in the home stretch of a spectacular season. I am proud of you. Let’s see you Be Your Best!

Band photos

A photographer will be onsite Tuesday October 21 to take a group photo of the marching band.  MAKE SURE YOUR UNIFORM IS COMPLETE AND AT THE HIGH SCHOOL! Order forms have not been delivered yet, but will be distributed as soon as they are available.  In addition to the group photo, individual pictures of band members in uniform with instrument may be ordered.  Picture taking begins Tuesday at 3pm.

Thanks so much for all the help this week. The pasta lunch was a huge hit!  Now we are heading into our last Feed the Band meal. This week, we are doing baked potatoes, with toppings, and soup, to hopefully help warm the kids up before they head outside to perform. Please SEE THE LIST HERE and sign up for what you can provide.
For dessert, I am going to order 2 cakes, one with the ‘RISE AND FALL’ on it, and on that says “Good Luck At State Finals’. Instead of asking for you to bake sweets, I am asking for donations towards this. It can be given to me on Saturday. I will be there at least by 12pm.   I am asking for the food to be delivered no later than 12:45pm. (Editor’s note: these kids can go through WAY more than one person’s donation of bacon.)   If you’d like to provide more, or have any questions, please email Kirsten at Plans for State Finals, which will be an early day, are still being finalized.

Rsvp and payment are due to Band Mailbox by October 30, 2014.

Glen Oaks will open at 6pm and the dinner buffet starts at 6:30. The banquet should end by 9pm. New members receive their Varsity Letters. All members receive a paper plate award from their section leader.   As a courtesy, staff from Strictly Varsity will be on site to take varsity jacket orders should you wish to place an order. Concert Band Bake Sale

The Band Boosters are holding bake sales at both Middle School Concert Band concerts next week:  7pm Wednesday Oct 22 at Abbott and 7pm Thursday, Oct 23 at OLMS.  Proceeds go toward classroom enhancements like sectional teachers.  Please CLICK HERE to sign up to help, provide supplies, or provide baked goods.  Please come see the future of the WB band program in their first performances of the year, and buy some treats!

Major Fundraiser – Raffle

The West Bloomfield Bands raffle has begun! This is a huge fundraiser that will benefit all of the West Bloomfield School District bands. Tickets went home with the Marching Band members and concert band members. Parent, if you have not seen any tickets, ASK YOUR CHILD. Each student is responsible for selling at least five $5 tickets. The prize is $1,000! (If fewer than 400 tickets are sold, the prize reverts to a 50/50). The drawing will take place on Dec. 11, 2014 at the WBHS Winter Concert in the auditorium. Participants need not be present to win. When you have finished selling your tickets, please return the stubs (the part of the ticket with the purchaser’s name and phone number) and the money (checks can be made to BBAWB) to the Band Director’s Mailbox. Please do not throw out or destroy any raffle tickets. They are all numbered and assigned to each student and we need to account for every ticket. If you need more tickets, please contact Christine Long at or leave a note in the Vice President’s mail slot in the Band Boosters’ office in the band room at the high school.

Uniforms: Need to be clean and wrinkle free for States. Plan to take the uniform home after the Lakeland Invitational to be cleaned. See Uniform Cleaning Instructions HERE.

Paper Plates: A much-loved tradition for the WBHS Marching Band is the posting of inspirational and good-luck messages on paper plates. Parents, you can encourage your child, as well as your child’s section, section leader, section members, and coaches. Band members, give your friends a little shout-out in paper plate form. Decorate a plate, and tape it up on the walls of the Band Room. It’s thrilling to see all the good wishes tangibly displayed.

Traffic Info for Ford Field: Ford Field has advised the MCBA that many routes to the stadium will be blocked due to construction and detours. Ex: Woodward Avenue is torn up in some areas due to the construction of the new RAPID RAIL SYSTEM. The link below will take you to updated information regarding traffic around Ford Field. Just prior to departing for Ford Field, people should refer to the information on the link. The information will be updated as it becomes known.

A BIG THANK YOU to all PIT CREW.   All your help and support is greatly appreciated — a lot!  Thanks!

~ Brett Crawford
