Dear Marching Band Members and Families,


Thank you for one of the most rewarding weeks of my career in West Bloomfield. The PRISM Concert was a resounding success; we represented our school extremely well on Friday with our 5am pep rally and game, and thank you for a fantastic performance Saturday at Clarkston! It was a very busy week, but our commitment and effort this week showed off our hard work, talent and school spirit.


This week we have practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday’s practice will be from 3-6pm and we will be performing at the beginning of Abbott’s band concert (more details below). We will be performing at the playoff game Friday, and will have the Lakeland Huron Valley Invitational on Saturday (schedule below). Best of luck as well to student participating in All State auditions on Sunday.

3:00pm, eat/change/load truck

4:30pm, depart WBHS

5:00pm, arrive at Lakeland. unload truck/warm up

9:00pm, arrive at WBHS and dismiss

IMPORTANT RECRUITING OPPORTUNITY!!  The marching band will be performing at the beginning of the Abbott 7th & 8th Grade Concert this Tuesday (10/27) at Abbott Middle School.  Marching Band rehearsal will run from 3pm – 6pm.

  • please wear your PRIDE shirt and jeans
  • don’t forget to take your instrument/equipment to Abbott
  • make your own arrangements for transportation from WBHS to Abbott.  If you need a ride, post a message on Facebook.
  • parents are welcome to stay for the marching band performance from 7pm – 7:15pm!

Saturday’s meal is a traditional favorite, a soup and baked potato bar. We need a lot of help with this one; parents need to serve the hot items. Several types of soup are listed on the Sign Up Genius, and there are open options if you have another preference. Baked potatoes stay nice and hot in a cooler. This meal will feature our celebration cakes (since the meal before State Finals will likely be at 6am). Donations for cakes are also found on the Sign Up Genius.

Food deliveries and setup volunteers should arrive by 2pm. If you need to drop off earlier, there are plugs for crockpots on the counters in the back of the cafeteria, and a refrigerator in the teachers lounge in the back of the cafeteria. PLEASE label all your dishes/coolers/crockpots with your name so we may return them to you in the band room at the end of the evening. If you donate something and want any unused portion returned, put a note with your item.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser NOW OPEN!!!!!

The entire band program – middle school, high school, and marching band – will be participating in a fundraiser offering Yankee Candles this fall to assist with instrument repair and purchase. Packets were distributed to band classes last week. Orders can be taken ONLY Oct 23 – Nov 7 (orders must be turned in no later than Nov 9), and products will be delivered 2-4 weeks later, in time for the holidays. Collect money at the time of the order. Checks should be payable to BBAWB.

Also, an online shopping option will allow friends and family anywhere to take advantage of these wonderful products.   Online shopping is now available, and open through the end of the year.

Online orders are sent directly to the purchaser, usually in about a week.  It’s a great option!  This was a popular and productive fundraiser last year, we hope for even better responses in 2015. Band Parents have a tradition of creating paper plate signs for the band members, wishing them good luck and encouraging them to do well at State Finals. Make a paper plate award for your child and hang it on the band room wall starting November 2. Bring strong tape since the walls are cinder block.


Please help the Varsity Winter Guard get to the WGI World Championships in Dayton!  Eat at The Lodge Grill and Bar in Keego Harbor on Thursday, November 5!  Bring in this certificate and 20% of all purchases will be donated to the WBHS Winter Guard.



Parents, here are some basic time guidelines for our trip to BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis November 12 – 15. Students will be excused from classes for Thursday and Friday. They will practice in the WB stadium from 9am to noon on Thursday, then load the truck and eat their own lunch from noon to 1pm. The buses and truck will pull out at 1:30pm.

Hotel for Nationals has been reserved – Comfort Inn South, 5040 S East St, Indianapolis IN. As of this week, the hotel still has rooms available if you wish to reserve a room on your own.

Approximate performance time at Lucas Oil Stadium is on Friday at 12:45pm. Ticket purchase info TBA. 30 of the 90 groups participating will compete in semi-finals on Saturday morning. If selected, we will find out time of Saturday’s performance sometime Friday night after awards ceremony; but performances are between 7:45am and 4:30p on Saturday. Finals take place Saturday night.

Returning home, we will be leaving Indianapolis on Saturday around midnight and arriving back at the high school on Sunday, November 15th at approximately 5:30am.

Pit Crew Volunteers

We are hoping to order Pit Crew t-shirts for those who have joined the group this season.  The shirts are dark green, with the WBHS Band anchor logo on the front, and “Pit Crew” on the back.  The price is $15.  In order to get the shirts in time for State Finals at Ford Field, the order must be placed within the next couple of days, minimum order 12 shirts.  Please email Cathy Gimby at if you would like to purchase a shirt.  Please indicate what size you’d like.  They are available in the following adult sizes: Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2XL or 3XL.


Thank you so much to those students who have paid their $5 uniform cleaning fee.  We still have several of you who have not paid.  Please submit $5 for cleaning fee and $5 if you purchased a bow tie.  Cash or check made out to BBAWB is accepted.  Give your payment to your band director or place in the mailbox in the high school band room.

The West Bloomfield Marching Band “Venezia” banquet will be held on Sunday, November 22nd at 6PM at Glen Oaks Country Club. Invitations were handed out to parents at the Prism Concert. Email if you have not received yours.

We are EXTREMELY EXCITED to announce a new program we will be starting up this winter. We will be working with the middle school students on percussion skills. Whether a student would like to play a marching or mallet instrument, they are encouraged to come learn percussion fundamentals with us this winter!

Marching Band uniforms (aside from Guard) should have been taken home after Friday’s football game. Please make sure the garment bag is neatly hung to keep the uniform wrinkle-free. Bring uniforms back to school for Wednesday’s PRISM Concert.
