Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

We are proud that the marching band is once again heading to state finals at Ford Field this year! This will be a big week and our biggest show of the year! We are all looking forward to representing WBHS well in Detroit on Saturday. Rehearsals will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-6:30 as we normally do. Saturday’s schedule will be shared via email and on our facebook page as soon as it is finalized.

We will be visiting OLMS on this upcoming Friday morning for our annual recruiting trip. More information will be sent out this week as to specific times. It will be in the morning though.

At the end of the day on Friday, Mr. Watson has asked the drum line to perform at a pep assembly. More information will be sent out later in the week regarding this as well.

We will not be in attendance at the playoff football game this weekend. If the game is on Friday night, everyone is welcomed to attend as students, but with an early day the next day (most likely 7 or 8am) we feel it is the best interest of our finals performance to not hold organized band activities Friday night.

Congratulations to all students who participated in All State auditions this weekend. The results should be released in the next few weeks.

Chad Mielens
Director of Bands
West Bloomfield High School

Uniforms:  Need to be clean and wrinkle free for States.  Plan to take the uniform home after the Lakeland Invitational to be cleaned.  See Uniform Cleaning Instructions HERE.  BRING IT BACK THIS WEEK, you will need it Friday morning to perform at OLMS!

Paper Plates:  A much-loved tradition for the WBHS Marching Band is the posting of inspirational and good-luck messages on paper plates.  Parents, you can encourage your child, as well as your child’s section, section leader, section members, and coaches.  Band members, give your friends a little shout-out in paper plate form.  Decorate a plate, and tape it up on the walls of the Band Room.  It’s thrilling to see all the good wishes tangibly displayed.

Traffic Info for Ford Field:  Ford Field has advised the MCBA that many routes to the stadium will be blocked due to construction and detours. Ex: Woodward Avenue is torn up in some areas due to the construction of the new RAPID RAIL SYSTEM.  The link below will take you to updated information regarding traffic around Ford Field. Just prior to departing for Ford Field, people should refer to the information on the link. The information will be updated as it becomes known.

Last week was great! There was plenty of food for all. Thanks to all who donated/ helped with everything! There are a few crockpots and utensils hanging out in the band room, so don’t forget to pick your stuff up.
As we head to state finals, the excitement is rising! We don’t have the exact schedule for Saturday yet, but we know it will be an early day.  We are going to provide the kids with a simple meal to eat while getting into uniform.  CLICK HERE FOR THE SIGNUP TO BRING FOOD.  On the list, you will find bagels, fruit and juice. I will be picking up individual-sized cream cheese (cash donations are appreciated). If your child has a dietary need that is not covered, please let me know right away.  Please drop off items ready-to-serve when you drop off your band student Saturday morning.  There will not be time for a sit down meal, it will be a grab and go bag meal. If you can help with packing bags and distribution, please arrive by 830.
Thank you to all for everything you have done!

The West Bloomfield Bands raffle has begun! This is a huge fundraiser that will benefit all of the West Bloomfield School District bands. Tickets went home with the Marching Band members and concert band members.  Parent, if you have not seen any tickets, ASK YOUR CHILD. Each student is responsible for selling at least five $5 tickets. The prize is $1,000! (If fewer than 400 tickets are sold, the prize reverts to a 50/50). The drawing will take place on Dec. 11, 2014 at the WBHS Winter Concert in the auditorium. Participants need not be present to win. When you have finished selling your tickets, please return the stubs (the part of the ticket with the purchaser’s name and phone number) and the money (checks can be made to BBAWB) to the Band Director’s Mailbox. Please do not throw out or destroy any raffle tickets. They are all numbered and assigned to each student and we need to account for every ticket. If you need more tickets, please contact Christine Long or leave a note in the Vice President’s mail slot in the Band Boosters’ office in the band room at the high school.

Thank You, Thank you, Thank You!  The concert bake sales at Abbott and OLMS were a sweet success.  Thanks to all that donated and volunteered time to setup/sale.
