Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

It was an exciting week, beginning very early Sunday morning with our return home from the BOA Regional in Dayton, and a rainy final home football game, and then finishing with Tag day at two locations.   And yet, this coming week may be the most important one yet this season. NOW we begin competing in MCBA Invitationals. NOW we eliminate for good all technical errors we’ve been discussing since August. NOW we begin fine-tuning the show, because we know the music and can add flourishes.   NOW it counts toward our ranking at state finals November 1 at Ford Field.

I have great confidence in this band, and in this show. You will be amazed how well we do when we BE OUR BEST!

Go Lakers!

Chad Mielens

Director of Bands

West Bloomfield High School

Tag Day

We took a chance, scheduling a second Tag Day on a weekend containing the holiest day of the year for our Jewish families. A huge thank you to all of the students and parents who were able to brave the cold, wind and rain to help raise funds this weekend. Despite the weather, the contributions were generous. We received many compliments!!Although the weather was positively miserable, we did fairly well. A quick count of the money shows that we made over $1,700, with a per-shift average around $125.   Thank you for sharing our program with our community by playing your music and spinning your flags.

FEED THE BAND

Saturday is our first MCBA competition of the season. It’s a full day, nearly 12 hours. One way that parents help is by feeding the band, staff and pit crew a hearty, nourishing meal between morning rehearsal and evening competition. It doesn’t happen without YOUR help! We will serve hotdogs/ chilidogs, veggies, and cookies. CLICK THIS LINK to sign up for set up, serving, clean up, or bringing food items. If you sign up for hot dogs or chili, I ask that you bring them ALREADY PREPARED, in a crockpot, and ready to serve. Please deliver everything no later than 1:30pm on Saturday. If you are helping set up, I will arrive at the school about 12pm to get things going. The band will be coming in at 2 to eat, and I want to give them as much time as I can. Please make sure to put your name on any serving pieces you bring, so we can return them to you. Any questions? Email wbfeedtheband@gmail.com

Major Fundraiser – Raffle

The West Bloomfield Bands raffle has begun! This is a huge fundraiser that will benefit all of the West Bloomfield School District bands. Tickets went home with the Marching Band members last week. The concert and symphony band members at WBHS, Abbott and OLMS will be receiving theirs in the next couple of weeks. Each student is responsible for selling at least five $5 tickets. The prize is $1,000! (If fewer than 400 tickets are sold, the prize reverts to a 50/50). The drawing will take place on Dec. 11, 2014 at the WBHS Winter Concert in the auditorium. Participants need not be present to win. When you have finished selling your tickets, please return the stubs (the part of the ticket with the purchaser’s name and phone number) and the money (checks can be made to BBAWB) to the Band Director’s Mailbox. Please do not throw out or destroy any raffle tickets. They are all numbered and assigned to each student and we need to account for every ticket. If you need more tickets, please contact Christine Long at vicepresident@wbbands.info or leave a note in the Vice President’s mail slot in the Band Boosters’ office in the band room at the high school.

Marching Band Uniforms

After Thursday’s rainy football game, band members were instructed to take uniforms home and air-dry them. Please make sure the uniform is OUT OF THE GARMENT BAG and hung up. The residents of The Swamp were particularly generous with the clouds of baby powder, which combined with wet clothing can leave a residue. Please carefully inspect the uniform. If needed, please follow THESE INSTRUCTIONS to clean and then cool -air-dry the uniform. Bring ALL PIECES of the uniform back to school Monday or Tuesday.

PIT CREW

A BIG THANK YOU to all PIT CREW who helped on Thursday in the pouring rain! Your hard work was deeply appreciated.  Thanks!
