From MCBA Executive Director Mack Pittard: “Just a short note to let you both know that your preparations for and the operation of the MCBA 2015 Field Day were excellent! In my opinion, everything that MCBA asked for was provided. The quality of the luncheon was worth much more than $5….Again, thank you for all that you put into the event.”

From Caption Head Mark DeDeckere: “I’m incredibly proud of how hard our band community has worked to put on two shows this weekend! The excitement and energy this year is growing fast and potentially one of the best support systems we’ve had in years (supportive parents, excited audience members, hard-working prop parents, pit crew, photographers, seamstresses, etc.)! I can’t wait for all of the elements to come together and to put the finishing touches on this program! Proud to be a part of team WB!”

From Concessions Chairperson Kirstin Watkins-White: “Thank you to all those who volunteered this past Saturday in concessions. I know it can be a very demanding, and cold, job, but everyone down there was great. And a huge THANK YOU to all those who pitched in at the end of the night, loading vehicles, unloading into trailers, cleaning, and moving things into the mezzanine. Without you, I would have never gotten out of there!”

Color Guard Laker of the week is Heather Bologna. Heather embodies positivity, hard work and is exemplary in her leadership on and off the field! She is a member of the rifle and saber line and continuously working to improve and reach her personal best!

The deadline for participating in the Section Competition Bottle Drive has been extended to Tuesday September 15. First, collect bottles and cans from friends and neighbors. Next, take the cans/bottles back to your local grocery store. All refund slips must be turned in to Ms. Boyle or left in the Band Boosters mailbox in the band room. The band is divided up by section (Percussion vs. Guard vs. Brass vs. Woodwinds), and the section with the highest dollar return amount will get a SPECIAL PRIZE.

Show Shirts – Final Order. The initial order of Show Shirts, displaying the beautiful logo for our show “Venezia,” was distributed last week.  Due to many requests, we will be placing a 2nd and final order for Show Shirts.  The order form is attached to this email.  All orders will be due by Wednesday, 9/16.  Please turn forms and payment in an envelope to the Band Booster office in the band room.  You can also email your order to Cathy Gimby at Please email Cathy with any questions, or call her at 248-366-0216.

Ensemble and Individual Pictures will be taken Thursday September 24 during rehearsal. Ms. Collier Miller will have photo forms this Tuesday at practice. Make sure you have your uniform clean, complete, and at school that day.

Save the date:

Our Fall Tag Day Saturday September 26th and Sunday September 27th. Sign Up Genius will be posted soon.

In an effort to keep the Band room tidier and for each member to keep all his/her uniform pieces together, we are asking students to take their uniforms home after games/competitions. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for bringing the uniform in when required. If it is necessary to launder the uniform between performances you may, using the uniform care instructions found on our web site. Oh, and while you’re out getting any last-minute school shopping done, pick up several pairs of black socks (length – above the ankle). Black socks are a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT every time the band is in uniform. Keep extras on hand!

Now that the band is really active, a great way to stay on top of activities, dates, times and general goings–on is to join the Official West Bloomfield Marching Band facebook page. This page is not open to the public, but band members, staff, and parents are welcome to join. Lots of new photos from the weekend and even videos of the performance can be viewed there.

Our show, “Venezia,” is quite prop-heavy with columns, canals and even a gondola! We are in need of parents to help with loading and unloading props and instruments and from our semi-truck, and getting these essential pieces onto the field before a performance. Crew Chief Brett Crawford is looking for 26 volunteers for each performance. Here is the link to the Pit Crew Sign Up Genius.  If you would like to be are part of the Pit Crew, please login and sign-up:

Bonus: Pit crew members get free admission to the shows, and can view the performance from the track surrounding the field. You can’t get any close to the excitement without an instrument or flag! Questions? Please email Brett Crawford at

There is a great deal of helpful information provided in our handbook, things that will be helpful to know as the season is now underway. Uniform care, spectator etiquette – all covered in the handbook.   Click HERE to download the handbook.
