Dear Marching Band Members and Families,
It was another eventful week for the WB Bands. Movement 4 is on the field, and was debuted in public last Friday at the Football Game. This was the first time we had to get our amazing props on and off the field in conditions similar to a competition. Saturday our band members worked to support the band program and entertained the community in our Fall Tag Day.
Saturday we have our first competition for scores, at Novi High School. If you are not already volunteering on that day, please come see the band perform. They have really been working hard, and it makes a difference to perform before an enthusiastic audience.
It should be a great week! Go Lakers!
WBHS Director of Bands

Tag Day was a success this past weekend. The total raised was $1690.81. Individual shifts were a little lower than hoped, but the Hazardous Waste drop-off at the West Bloomfield Civic Center was a surprising success.

Helpful hints from veteran parents: The kids eat lunch at 4:15pm, there is no organized meal planned later in the day. Parents may wish to send a bag dinner or money for concessions. Bag dinner can be left on bus during performance. Buses DO NOT LOCK! Do not bring valuables or leave cash on the bus. The band is not responsible for valuables/cash.
NEEDED: One adult bus chaperon for Saturday’s Invitational. You will help make sure all band members are in full uniform, and ride the bus to and from Novi. You will also accompany the band members throughout their time in Novi and encourage their best behavior. Because of the very ambitious nature of our show, you may be tapped to help with props for the performance. If you are not able to do so, then you may be asked to pay for entry to the show so that the free entry wristband can be used by additional pit crew members. If you can help, email Mary Webster (email@example.com ). Thank you!
PIT CREW PARENTS!
There will be a Pit Crew rehearsal this Saturday at 3 p.m. We will be practicing taking the props on and off the field. If you would like to be are part of the Pit Crew, please login and sign-up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b44abaa2e5-2015
Bonus: Pit crew members get free admission to the shows, and can view the performance from the track surrounding the field. You can’t get any close to the excitement without an instrument or flag! Questions? Please email Brett Crawford at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Feed the Band
This week we will provide a sandwich luncheon for the band members, staff, and pit crew. Please click the link to see the Sign Up Genius with items and tasks needed. Food items need to be dropped off in the WBHS cafeteria ready to be served (ie, meats and cheeses sliced) between 11am – 3:15pm. Contact Kirsten Watkins-White with any questions. INITIAL INFO – NATIONALS IN INDIANAPOLIS
Parents, here are some basic time guidelines for our trip to BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis November 12 – 15. Students will be excused from classes for Thursday and Friday. They will practice in the WB stadium from 9am to noon on Thursday, then load the truck and eat their own lunch from noon to 1pm. The buses and truck will pull out at 1:30pm.
Approximate performance time at Lucas Oil Stadium is on Friday at 12:45pm.
We will find out time of Saturday’s performance sometime Friday night after awards ceremony; but performances are between 7:45am and 4:30p on Saturday.
Returning home, we will be leaving Indianapolis on Saturday around midnight and arriving back at the high school on Sunday, November 15th at approximately 5:30am.
In an effort to keep the Band room tidier and for each member to keep all his/her uniform pieces together, we are asking students to take their uniforms home after games/competitions. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for bringing the uniform in when required. If it is necessary to launder the uniform between performances you may, using the uniform care instructions found on our web site. Oh, and while you’re out getting any last-minute school shopping done, pick up several pairs of black socks (length – above the ankle). Black socks are a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT every time the band is in uniform. Keep extras on hand!
Now that the band is really active, a great way to stay on top of activities, dates, times and general goings–on is to join the Official West Bloomfield Marching Band facebook page. This page is not open to the public, but band members, staff, and parents are welcome to join. Lots of new photos from the weekend and even videos of the performance can be viewed there.
MARCHING BAND HANDBOOK
There is a great deal of helpful information provided in our handbook, things that will be helpful to know as the season is now underway. Uniform care, spectator etiquette – all covered in the handbook. Click HERE to download the handbook.
