Dear Marching Band Members and Families,

Thank you, Marching Band, for your flexibility on Friday night. Let’s hope we don’t have weather like that any more of our games/shows!

We have Field Day this Saturday. An official schedule will be released by me on Monday. We perform at 6:30pm and due to ACT testing in the morning, will be unable to hold practice before 1pm. Based on field availability, I will be trying to work out a rehearsal time before field day begins. The show itself starts around 3:30pm.

The first week of school was a busy one, but I am extremely excited for what is in store for us, both in the classroom and outside of it!

 Go Lakers!

Chad Mielens

Director of Bands

West Bloomfield High School

full calendar

This week’s Super Lakers are guard member Alisibeth Watkins-Miller, Battery member Kim Montone, and Front Ensemble member Noah Gorman. All were singled out for their enthusiasm, dedication to accuracy, and hard work.

Because school is closed on Thursday Sept 25 (the day before we leave for the BOA Invitational in Dayton OH), there will be no rehearsal that day. Instead, the regular 3:30 – 6:30 practice has been rescheduled to Monday, Sept 22.   Please adjust your schedule accordingly.

If you took your marching band uniform home Friday, PLEASE read the uniform care instructions on our web site!!  CLICK HERE for the instructions.  COOL DRYER SETTING ONLY!  Please make sure the jacket and bib you took home match the numbers on your garment bag tag

Reminder, you are responsible for the uniform pieces you signed out when you were fitted. If you left your uniform parts – or other clothes – laying around in the Orchestra Room or Band Room, you may wish to come early to rehearsal Tuesday and check the Lost and Found, and try to re-assemble your uniform.  Those uniform pieces all look alike; it is YOUR responsibility to keep track of them. Full uniforms are required for Field Day next Saturday.

This Saturday, September 13th, West Bloomfield bands will host six other bands at our Field Day event. We are still in need of three people to work 1pm to 7pm helping direct these bands’ buses and trucks in our parking lot. Please contact Ruth Richards at immediately if you can help, or if you have any questions about your assignment/report time.

Abbot and OLMS seventh and eighth grade band students will perform The Star Spangled Banner, and be invited to watch the bands perform free of charges (must be accompanied by paying adult, though)

The Band Boosters will publish a program for Field Day. All band members and families are invited to sell ads in the program.  Prices are reduced this year.  The Personal Ad order form and Business Ad order form can be found on our web page.   Many parents take this opportunity to celebrate (and/or mildly embarrass) their band kids with photo ads.  Section Leaders receive a complimentary quarter page ad to honor their section.  Ad deadline has been extended. All ads need to be submitted by September 9.

During the Marching Band season, parents help with loading and unloading instruments and props from our semi-truck, and getting these essential pieces onto the field before a performance. Crew Chief Brett Crawford is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping. CLICK HERE to see the sign-up page, or email Brett at with any questions  Bonus: Pit crew members get free admission to the shows, and can view the performance from the track surrounding the field. You can’t get any close to the excitement without an instrument or flag!
